Romans 3:25

Hello guys, There was this discussion i had with someone today who believed that ONLY our past sins were forgiven by Christ sacrifice but from now onwards everyman for himself. They base it on
Rom 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

on checking the verse and the word 'remission' i discovered it as 'paresis(toleration, appears only once)' which is different from 'remission (aphesis, forgiveness, deliverance, appears more than once)' in for example Matt 26:28.

Could it therefore mean paul meant something else that is misused used as something else? lets discuss
